The Gardens
Anna Maria Stanczyk

The Botanical Gardens of the Polish Academy of Sciences, situated at the southern edge of Warsaw in Powsin, has become a meeting place not only for lovers of nature and plants, but also for other people, who understand a nature’s beauty in a very specific way.

The Artistic Director of the Festival is the famous pianist, Anna Maria Stanczyk, well known in Poland and abroad, based in London. Ms. Stanczyk creates a musical programme related to especially attractive events which visitors can observe in the Botanical Gardens.

The Festival organisers present an attractive programme of concerts inviting international pianists.

The Homo et Planta Foundation consists of a group of naturalists and scientists. It was established in Cupertino with the Polish Academy of Sciences. Every year the Garden is visited by over 200,000 people, including a large group of children and young people, attracted by plant collections and other interesting events.

While observing the visitors, in close contact with nature, contemplating its beauty and relaxing, this inspired the Foundation to enrich this unique place with the beauty of music. Since Spring 1996, the International Piano Festival “Music in Flowers” takes place in Powsin around the Fangore Palace, among secular oaks bird trills, all in the climate of “Four seasons of the year” as in the composition of Vivaldi under the same title.

The concerts are inspired by the wonderful, unique plant collection of the Botanical Gardens of AN. In the midst of these plants, the piano music allows one to spend unforgettable moments, far away from the noise of a big city and forget about everyday problems. The time of blooming of several hundred trees and bushes of Magnolia, over 200 species of Azalea and Rhododendrons mark the dates of the concerts held in Powsin from May to September.

The artistic vision of the Festival is to present the most distinguished piano pieces, emphasising the works of polish composers and also music from the pianists country of origin.
